Feather on Ice is a breathtaking example of macro fine art photography, capturing a rare moment of stillness and fragility in the heart of winter. Discovered during a sub-25-degree afternoon, this delicate feather, frozen into the surface of the ice, stood as the only sign of softness in an otherwise rigid, snow-blanketed landscape. I lay flat on the frozen ground to preserve this fleeting scene, enduring the numbing cold, melting snow, and icy mud that soaked through my winter gear. I captured more than 100 shots were taken in rapid succession to get the composition just right. The result: a singular, perfectly focused image that evokes both serenity and strength. The juxtaposition of the feather’s delicate structure against the hard, crystalline ice symbolizes nature’s duality, softness, strength, vulnerability, and endurance.
