When I created Superabundance, I wanted to capture an overwhelming richness of texture, color, and liquid detail through fine art macro photography. After I sprayed this parrot feather with a fine mist of water, its surface became completely inundated with droplets, forming a dazzling study in abundance at the microscopic level. The title felt exact to me, not simply fullness, but excess and overflow beyond expectation.
What drew me in immediately was the feather’s vibrant color gradient. It shifts from an ultra-viridescent green at the top to deeper violet and plum tones below, creating a luminous transition that feels almost electrically alive. That contrast gave the image a striking energy, as though the feather had been painted with light itself. Through ultra macro photography, I was able to reveal each linear barb and microscopic hair with immense sharpness, exposing details that would remain completely invisible to the naked eye.
The water droplets became the true architects of the composition. Scattered across the feather in dozens of uniquely sized orbs, they refracted and artistically distorted the surface beneath them, bending the feather’s parallel lines into delicate optical illusions. I was fascinated by how each droplet acted like a tiny lens, magnifying, reshaping, and intensifying the vanes below, making the feather’s texture feel even more pronounced. In that way, the photograph became a fusion of abstract, nature, and scientific photography.
To me, Superabundance is about more than a feather covered in water. It is about lavish detail, saturated beauty, and the extraordinary elegance I can uncover when I look deeply enough into nature’s smallest surfaces.
